The lower Niagara River is at the bottom of a deep and wide gorge in western NY. Niagara Falls is a couple miles upstream having slowly carved this gorge after the last ice age. Canada is seen on the other side.

We belonged to a place called Wood Spring when I was a child. We swam in the little lake, but also spent countless hours playing in the gentle streams in the surroundings. 12×12” acrylic on canvas

The fall of warm light at the far end of this scene captured me. The nearby boulders, in contrast, were cool in the shade.

The forest floor was damp after abundant spring showers. A walk in the woods revealed this puddle with the refleciton of the sky and clouds. New growth was emerging. This gave me a feeling of hope and renewal.

The Flint Hills in central Kansas have their own unique kind of beauty. One friend saw “fire” and a reference to the annual burning of prairie in this painting so I named it Prairie Fire.

The brook running through this frigid scene seemed to say that movement and growth will return again at winter’s end.

This painting is inspired by the beauty of the Streamways Trail in western Lenexa. I love the variety of scenes and smooth riding on this trail. The drama of the changing trees and the effect of light and shadow captured my mind and heart on this particular day.

The Streamway Trail in Lenexa is a beautiful place where I often ride my bike. Sometimes I sneak photos of the people enjoying it.

The bridges, tree-canopied passages, open fields, tunnels, and natural water features that a cyclist on the Gary Heller trail sees, and passes through, provide beautiful sensory variety in viewpoint and felt-experience.

On hot summer mornings I am out riding early. This is a marshy pond by the trail near Monticello and Prairie Star Parkway. It feels like the day is waking up when the sun catches the tops of the grasses.
